The repeated process of at-home hair removal can be tedious and time consuming. At Vanity Lab London, we provide a safe and effective reduction in body hair using intense pulsed light, otherwise known as IPL Hair Removal.
Why you might choose IPL Hair Removal
For those with fair skin and dark hair, medical grade IPL hair removal could leave you hair-free. Without the hassle of managing re-growth, maintaining regular removal regimes at home, or the pain of removing ingrown hairs, our treatment provides a quick and easy solution with minimal recovery time.
The treatment would not be suitable to those with darker skin tones as the light could affect melanin within the skin during the treatment and possibly lead to discolouration.
Pre-treatment
During your initial consultation, your fully qualified NMC and BACN registered practitioner will assess your skin, ensuring you are suitable for the treatment. At this point, you should mention any skin conditions you suffer with, such as eczema or inflammatory acne, as these could be affected post-treatment.
You may be advised to avoid certain activities, medications, or ointments during the lead up to your appointment. This may include avoiding sunlight and UV rays, waxing, and medication that could increase bleeding, such as aspirin and ibuprofen.
The day before your treatment is carried out, we would recommend that you shave, allowing the IPL to reach the hair follicle.
How IPL Hair Removal works
On the day of your treatment, your practitioner will cleanse the area that is being treated with an antibacterial gel before applying a cool gel onto your skin. The IPL device will then begin applying pulses of light to your skin. You will be given protective glasses to wear need to wear during this treatment.
The IPL device works by using heat to destroy the hair follicle, preventing regrowth. Time can vary depending on the area of skin being treated and a patch test will be carried out on each area you wish to have hair removed from.
Post-treatment
Post-treatment, you may feel as though your skin is sensitive and it may become red. This is normal and you should let this subside naturally. We would recommend that you avoid using hot water, as well as any other heated treatment such as saunas or steam rooms for up to 48 hours after.
Up to a week post-treatment, avoid any shaving or exfoliation on the treated area. You should steer clear from waxing for a prolonged period. For up to 6 weeks post-treatment, you should avoid UV rays and sun exposure. If you find yourself in the sun, try your best to cover up the treated area or use a high factor sun cream.
These aftercare procedures should be carried out after every session.
How soon will I see the results of my IPL Hair Removal?
To see maximum results, you could require between 6-12 sessions. Your practitioner will be able to provide you with an accurate treatment programme for your skin. For the most beneficial results, each treatment should be carried out with 4-6 weeks in between, granting your skin time to heal whilst following the correct aftercare.
